Our Divisions

This foundry was originally made up of two divisions on different sites. The Investment Casting Division (Rely Precision Casting) where the current premises are in Boksburg, and a sand casting division in Chamdor. The decision was taken to concentrate on developing the investment casting capability and the sand casting division was sold. In November 2006 IntraCast was purchased and its assets and customer base combined with Rely’s.

In the past 5 years the capacity of RelyIntraCast has been increased by the injection of approximately R7m in capital equipment and today it is the largest investment casting foundry in Southern Africa and arguably in the southern hemisphere.

This operation was originally a division of API and traded under the name of WALRO FLEX, which is still the trade name of the cable it manufactures. BGG specialises in and is the only independent manufacturer of automotive wire and battery cable in Southern Africa. In 2003 the joint venture company BGG was purchased from its parent Gebauer & Griller of Austria and the two operations merged on the Walro Flex site in Alberton North.

BGG is an approved supplier of automotive cable to Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Nissan, General Motors, Toyota and Renault and produces under the strict quality requirements of TS16949. At the time of the purchase of BGG a Technical Transfer Agreement was signed with Gebauer & Griller, who is a leading automotive cable developer and manufacturer in Europe and this technical relationship is still enjoyed today, keeping BGG in the forefront of product development for the South African automotive producers.  BGG also produces a range of “non-automotive” cable in the low to medium voltage range for the South African market.
